Chimzimu opens up on historic brace
Sweden-based blossoming women’s football star Faith Chimzimu has opened up on how she felt after scoring a brace that earned the Scorchers their maiden Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) finals qualification.
The teenage attacker scored both goals when the Malawi Women’s National Football Team beat Angola 2-0 to reach the promised land a fortnight ago at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
In an interview with Weekend Nation on Thursday, Chimzimu, whose side BK Hacken FF sealed the Swedish women’s top-flight title last week, said: “It was the best moment of my career this far.
“On that day, we had faith of beating Angola, but I never expected to score a goal let alone a brace.

“At the end of the match, I nearly cried because of the historical qualification. The scenes were so amazing in front of the huge crowd.”
The Ascent Academy product, who has five goals for Scorchers and seven for the Under-17 women’s national side, said scoring the brace has boosted her confidence.
“My confidence levels have grown since that day and I am humbled by the way people look at me and appreciate me,” she said.
“Having said that, football is a collective sport and credit should go to the entire team.”
Commenting on her debut season in Europe, Chimzimu said: “I am enjoying life in Europe and I love the organisation and infrastructure they have, but the challenge is culture.
“However,I am adapting slowly. I hope and believe next season, when I start from preseason, you will see the best of me.”
She has scored two goals in five appearances for Hacken, including a goal s in her debut during a Uefa Women’s Europa qualifier recently.
She said her dream is to win more trophies and accolades fir both club and country.
“Hopefully one day I will be on the list of Ballon d’Or nominees or even win it. Oi is about having faith and self-belief.”
